Preview: Whippany Park v. Lyndhurst

4 different pitchers should be available for Lyndhurst on Tuesday, May 25th. It should be exciting on how Coach Servideo juggles around the pitchers. Last years match-up between the two teams was a pitcher's duel where Glen Flora came out on top. He also provided the offense with the suicide squeeze rbi. This year Whippany Park seemed to have upgraded in every aspect: overall record, defense, offense, pitching. The Bears on the other hand have gotten significantly younger, are polarized in their run scoring ability, and has depth in the pitching.

Whippany Park has a slight edge this year.

Lyndhurst can pull off an upset. They are very polarized with their bat and they can get hot at any time and match Whippany Park's offense or exceed it. I'd have the 3 of the hottest batters batting 1-2-3 for Lyndhurst. It's essential for Lyndhurst to score early and create havoc on Whippany Park.

Results

Lyndhurst v. Hoboken: W 2-1 (States Tournament 2nd round)

Analysis: Hoboken strikes first. Naseef hits a go-ahead run. Calabro comes in for relief to close the game. Fantastic game on both sides.

Lyndhurst v. St. Mary's: L 3-0 (League Game)

Analysis: With a loss to St. Mary's that just about shuts the door for Lyndhurst's run at the league title. St. Mary's scored 3 runs early and maintained their lead. Lyndhurst Bear's bats were dormant at the wrong possible time. Lyndhurst pitching was great; offense not-to-great this game.

Lyndhurst v. Wallington: W 5 - 4 (League Game)

Analysis: Wallington led for most of the game. However, Lyndhurst Bears closed the game out with a lead at the end. Kim hits the winning run as well as closing out the game for a save. Lyndhurst will go for the league title later today v. St. Mary's (Rutherford) losing 3-1 to Becton.

Results

Lyndhurst v. Old Tappan: L 4-3 8 innings (County Game - ELIMINATED)
Lyndhurst v. Secaucus: L 10 - 8 (League Game)

Analysis: 2 great games against 2 superb opposing pitchers. There are 5 -6 players in the Bear's lineup with great run producing numbers. Top to bottom they can certainly mash and hit the ball; they have talent. Their defense will improve. They can beat the best on any given day, and can lose to one of the worst in any given day. This is all part of the maturing process. When the Bears, mature they will be even more consistent and win games they are suppose to win. I'm liking Lyndhurst Bear's future, they're maturing very quickly. I predict they will do well in the states, they will be a force to be reckoned with in 2010 as well as 2011.

Scouting Report: Old Tappan
Record (11-8)
Last Game: Loss @ Mahwah High School
Players to Watch: Joey Rizzo
Ranked 16th; Group III
Ranked 47; State

Preview - Despite the seeding of Old Tappan in the Bergen County Tournament this will be the toughest team Lyndhurst has faced this season. If Lyndhurst is clicking on all cylinders: potent offense ready-to-go, quality start, and good fielding then Lyndhurst will come out on top. They must play like they did against Emerson earlier in the season.

Lyndhurst League Title Run Difficult But Not Impossible

In order for Lyndhurst to be certain to capture the league title it will have to win three straight. They would need to play and win versus Wallington, Secaucus, and St.Mary's. This will be a great test for the Golden Bears. In previous meetings Lyndhurst wallopped Wallington 9-4, clubbed Secaucus 11-2, and was licked by St. Mary's 8-5 in the later innings.

Strategy: Score early, put pressure on the other team, and play error-less ball.
